I was really excited for this music video firstly because I was not expecting it at all, and also because I loved "Something" sooo much that I was hoping I would like this one just as well. After the first listen, I liked it more than I liked Something the first time around, but Something is literally my favorite song at the moment so obviously Spellbound isn't up to that level yet. But, I absolutely LOVE this style for them - the jazzy feel, with the nice suits and the trumpet / instrumentals, and the addictive dances... After listening to Spellbound a couple more times I can tell that I'm going to love it. It's addictive in a way you wouldn't expect. As for the music video, there was one female dancer who for some reason was incredibly distracting to me but overall I really liked the concept. I love this hair color on Yunho and their outfits are good although I thought it was weird that they were wearing different color shoes but maybe that's just me. The dance is great, on their part and the part of the backup dancers, and I liked the camera work a lot; it made it feel like it was done in one take, and at times the dancers seemed to appear out of nowhere which I had to go back and watch again to see that it wasn't just special effects. Overall I'm really happy with the song and music video and cannot wait to see them promote it. (They are promoting it, right?) If they are I hope they beat GG and 2ne1, I just think that would be hilarious.
7th Album "Tense" and Repackaged "Spellbound" Thoughts
Honestly, anything that any JYJ or TVXQ members put out I fall in love with for some reason...I think they are incredibly talented and able to retain their sound regardless of what style they are attempting. This album is a completely different concept from their last one with Catch Me and Humanoids, both of which are excellent songs in my opinion, but I like the fact that they can switch gears and do something like this and still pull it off. I loved the album "Tense," particularly the song 너의 남자 (Your Man) which is like my jam at the moment, so I am looking forward to listening to the repackaged album now as well. After the first full listen, I generally liked all of the songs, but none stuck out to me. [Edit: After listening again, most of the songs are notably very good and I honestly believe this is a wonderful album.]So far I like the songs "Off Road" and "Heaven's Day" best because TVXQ's falsetto voices are clean and addictive, and these songs are catchy enough to listen to multiple times. We'll see~ Anyway, overall I really enjoy this album and think it was a good choice for TVXQ to take this route this time.
